Dear Ministry Supporters:
Fall has certainly arrived! The corn is being harvested, the apples and pumpkins are ready for picking, the leaves are changing color and the air is a bit crisper. We can see the Lord’s hand in His creation as He starts to ‘put things to bed’ for the colder temperatures of winter.
Autumn is the time when we reap what we have sown earlier in the year. The same is true in our lives. Chaplain Craig put it this way. “The apostle Paul lays out a challenge for Christians when he writes in Philipians 4:8, ‘Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’ Paul instructs us to keep our hearts and minds on things that are good. I know that when driving, the mind can wander into all kinds of avenues, but there is a blessing to those that keep their heart on the Lord. A wise man once said, ‘You sow a thought, you reap a word; you sow a word, you reap an action; you sow an action, you reap a character; you sow a character, you reap a destiny.’ These words of wisdom remind me that it is important to take control of our thought life. If a person can get control of his mind, he can reap a brighter destiny. If we want things to change for the better, we need to get our hearts and minds on the Lord.”
As believers in Jesus Christ, we know that He loves us, cares for us, protects us and desires that we trust Him in, and for, all things. Chaplain Dave wrote in a recent report to the Board, “I again come to the realization of how much our Father in heaven loves us. As many of you know, Cheryl and I have been under attack physically, mentally and spritually. Yet our Father continues to strengthen us daily. In Leviticus 26:13 it says, ‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.’ Jesus today brings us out of that which enslaves us and He conitues to break the bars of our man-made sinful yokes, and allows us to walk erect in Jesus’ love. In Daniel 8:18 it says, ‘Now, while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and made me stand upright.’ Again, Jesus lifts us up from the sleep of depression, anquish and pain that the enemy attempts to level upon us. And He continues to touch us so that we can stand upright in His presence of glory and love.”
What a great and loving God we serve! He is truly worthy of our praise and service!
We had a wonderful time at our 13th Annual Fall Fundraising Banquet at New Fairview Church of the Brethren on October 7th. Approximately 340 attended and the evening was packed full with our silent auction, a delicious dinner and ministry updates from our Chaplains. It’s always a great time to fellowship with our supporters and to just enjoy the common bond of love we have for each other because of what Jesus has done for us. The Lord poured out His blessing through you by providing over $20,700.00 for the Ministry through the offering, ticket sales, sponsor ads, the silent auction and food sales! Please pray that we as a Board will use these funds wisely to glorify Him through demonstrating His love to those whom we minister.
This time of year also signals preparation for our annual cookie collection and distribution. This is always a special time for us because we get to see the surprise and gratitude on the faces of the men and women to whom we provide cookies. One hotel manager greets us each year with, “You’re finally here; the truckers have been asking when the cookies were coming.” This is truly an event that is anticipated by so many that are on the road during the holiday season. Last year you provided over 13,400 bags of cookies that we were able to distribute. Wouldn’t it be great if we could top that and hit 14,000 this year? It all depends on you! Enclosed is a flier that gives you all the information you should need, but if you have any questions at all, please contact us at the phone number on the flier or call our Secretary/Treasurer, Dave Bell, at 717-776-7191. Let’s make this the biggest and best year ever!
One final note – We currently have 1143 individuals, churches, businesses, etc. on our mailing list and each time we do a mailing, it costs about $600.00. We love keeping you updated on what’s going on in the Ministry and we love hearing from you, but if you would rather not continue to receive mail from us, please let us know. You can just make a note on the enclosed donation envelope and send it back to us. This will help to save on mailing costs that could otherwise be used to further the Lord’s work. Thanks so much!
Again, we thank you for your continued support and ask you to pray for us as we minister to the lost and broken-hearted.
For the Board of Directors,
David D. Bell, Sec./Treas. – Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry, Inc.
REMINDER: We are trying to ‘pare down’ our mailing list in order to save on printing and postage costs. If you no longer wish to receive these newsletters, would you kindly indicate so on the enclosed envelope and return it to us. Thanks for helping us use the Lord’s resources wisely!
